A recently-released report on the impact of rare diseases (those that affect fewer than 200,000 Americans at any given time) finds that 1 in 10 people in the United States are affected by a rare disease, and that it takes an average of 7 years for a patient with a rare disease in the US to receive an accurate diagnosis.
